Life Story for Branden K. "Kekau Cakes" Kahawai

Branden Kekauli'iokalani Kahawai was born April 14, 1989. He was the youngest of three siblings born to Daniel and Gwendolyn Kahawai.

Branden attended Makaha Elementary and the Ke Kula Kaiapuni O Makaha with Kumu Kauliā€™a who was the foundation for Branden learning the Hawaiian Language. He then flourished with the culture and language of the Hawaiian Immersion School when it was moved to Nanakuli Elementary School with the Ke Kula Kaiapuni O Nanakuli. He was able to practice Hawaiian language at home with his Tutu Nancy Alapai Hepa. He was able to cherish the history, lesson, culture and customs presented to him at home and school.

He attended various schools from Myron B Thompson, Leeward Community College with a Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Hawaii and in the process of earning his Masters degree in Hawaiian language and Education.

He also worked at various public schools Keaukaha Elementary in Hilo and Nanakuli High and Kamaile Elementary in Honolulu.

His love for music followed him wherever he went and best of all passion for playing the various instruments loved by him. His hula hands were so natural; as the music flowed so did the hula he shared.

We love you Kekau
Mom, Dad, Lehua and Jonah along with your nieces and nephews.
