Condolence: Dear Kaopio Family,

My name is Yoleen Lucas, but you may remember me as Melissa Winwood. Back in 1995 and 1996, I worked with Matthew as a CNA through Nursefinders Agency.

I currently live on the Big Island. I still work as a CNA; in addition, I am also a substitute teacher. I have often thought of Matthew over the years. Yesterday, I discovered his book, "Written in the Sky". I was VERY pleased to see he had written a book, and also had taken up painting! I remember while I worked with him, he would tell me stories he'd composed. He told me a lot about Hawaiian culture, which I was unaware of at the time since I had just moved to Hawaii. He even taught me how to swear in Hawaiian!

Today, I looked him up to find out how to contact him; that's when I discovered he passed away last Christmas. I am SO SORRY to learn of that! I remember his mother too, and am sorry to hear of her passing as well.

Matthew may be gone, but his influence through his book will continue to bless others.
