Fishing at Waiahole Beach Park

I remember in the early 90's going fishing with Uncle Pepito and Germie (son) all the time.  I remember the first time he took me, I was very excited and could not wait to learn how to lay net for the first time.  We went during the evening, where the tide was low and the only light was the moon to guide us through the black sand ocean.  I recalled the water being so calm and cold as it got higher and higher as we walked out to the ocean. By the time it reached my hips, I could hear the fish jumping up and down from the water. Uncle Pepito would tell us to be very quite and not move so much, because we did not want to scare the fishes away. Slowly we would take the net from his home made black rubber tube boat. We slowly would lay the net streching it across from one side to another, Germie and I would stay one side while he was on the other end of the net. All of a sudden you can feel the net with movements, it felt like there was someone tugging at the net. I knew then that we were catching fish!!! After Uncle Pepito streched the net, we started to splash water all over the place. This was really fun!! We were scaring the fishes to go to the net. When it was time to check the net, I was so thrilled with joy!!! I got to learn how to lay net and caught a lot of fish on my first time! From then on I always went with Uncle Pepito until they moved away. I really missed those moments with him. He was like a father to me.  I did a lot of things with Uncle Pepito and his family during those years. I will always miss him and his family. I truly cherish those moments. Rest In Peace Uncle Pepito and God Bless. Aunty Celia, Cheryl, and Germie, thank you for the memories and friendship. I hope to see you guys again someday.
